Includes letters from several officials at the Dept. of Interior, Office of Indian Affairs, one letter from Senator Lawrence Y. Sherman and one letter from Ernest East discussing and denying a claim that Joseph was a "drunkard."

Canadian who established a ferry on the Rock River in Lee County, Ill. near what is now the town of Dixon, and was married to Pottawatomie woman, Madeline. The various tribes were fond of Ogee and when discussing terms for land treaties they wanted to be sure the land for his ferry was left with him.
